Dressage Show at Sun Prairie 8/12/2012

It was a fun and relaxing show.  Only riding one test so we trailered in arriving at noon.  Warm up was uneventful doing our gymnastics for Turi to loosen up his hips and some transitions to get his mind in the game.  The actual test felt okay, not great.  This is not his favorite arena, he finds it spooky.  We only had a couple of little spooks which unfortunately did not help him bend though the corners.  The main comments received from the judge were poll low, on forehand and not forward enough.  I can't seem to translate what we do in training to the show ring.  It is the same no matter what I do.  It is becoming extremely frustrating.  I am trying to decide where to go from here.  I would like to see some progress in the show arena for all the time and work put in.  I really get tired of all the "he is doing so well" comments because it is apparent he is not.  He has the ability but no drive to do this work.  Scores reflect a flat show year.  No improvement across the board from start finish. I feel like the kid that studies and does all the homework but still fails the test.

Attempted sitting through the training level 3 test today.  While Turi sparkles on each element alone, when I put them together and ride the test things get pretty slow and fussy.

I wanted to start off with a video of Turi back in the day but I could not find one. So, here is our beginning with a photo. This photo was taken before he became mine. I rode him in a flat class at a show at Latigo back in 2006.
Turi and I went to our first ever Dressage show in Littleton. Dressage for the Cure in May of 2008.

2011 was a difficult year with my mom passing from cancer.
2012 began with Turi lame, a move to a new barn, and best of all finding an awesome trainer to work with. This is where I believe our real journey begins. I will start off with a picture of Turi followed by a schooling video.
